Staying Safe While #DeacsAbroad
With the world as your classroom, studying abroad immerses you in diverse cultures, broadens your horizons, and provides transformative experiences that will stay with you for a lifetime. And while abroad, students should be free from interpersonal violence (IPV) and know who to turn to if you or someone you know is impacted.
Did You Know…
If you or someone you know experiences IPV while abroad, you can still receive confidential consultation from the Safe Office Helpline at 336-758-5285
The WFU Student Code of Conduct still applies to students while abroad and you can still report instances of IPV through the university
Differences in cultural norms are not an excuse for interpersonal violence
If You Need Help….
You can receive confidential consultation 24/7 from the Safe Office Helpline at 336-758-5285. Counselor/Advocates are unable to provide counseling for students while abroad due to licensing restrictions; however, we are able to provide consultation, safety planning, reporting options, and suggestions for next steps based on your specific concern.
WFU Global Programs & Studies strongly advises students to contact local law enforcement and seek medical attention in their host country in an emergency.
Have a health or safety related concern while abroad? Contact David Taylor, Assistant Dean for Global Study Away, at (336) 758-5938 or taylordf@wfu.edu, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
You can still report instances of interpersonal violence to Title IX, Student Conduct, or University Police while abroad. Visit our campus resources page for more information.
